The blank slate: a beautiful pool area in the Bahamas where intense sun is the norm. Our client requested a series of awnings to provide filtered shade for more comfortable outdoor living. In response, we designed three four-point tension awnings to radiate artistically from eight varnished mahogany columns. This installation required the very surgical removal of large portions of the existing ipe deck, allowing us to bolt stainless steel foundations to the underlayment. These strong foundations receive the columns. With the decking back in place, the large plates are discreetly hidden. Every detail, from the mahogany columns to the hand-sewn awnings to the intricate install, contributes to an artistic yet functional whole.
