The academy was looking to improve a mixed-use outdoor patio off Leamy Hall as a hangout spot for cadets and a protected event site. The resulting tension awning, sewn from long-lasting Ferrari fabric, is anchored to the building on one side and steel columns on the other. This project was challenging from an engineering perspective, as it required a great deal of structural testing to determine the anchors’ load-bearing capabilities. It was also challenging from an installation perspective, as a crane moved the 22’ foot steel columns into place and a boom lift raised our team into place atop the 30-foot-high concrete wall.
