One challenging aspect of this residential project on Martha’s Vineyard was that the owners wanted the awning as close as possible to the house without any actual connections. In response, we developed four curved, laminated mahogany columns that evenly flank a set of French doors. The columns’ height shifts create a signature twist in the light blue awning while their footings integrate seamlessly into the stone patio. Throughout the design process, we were careful that the awning’s silhouette did not impede the coveted views.
